Internet wandering from my previous post came up with this video from CE! in Brighton playing with the Rezillos a couple of years ago… If I remember correctly Lewis had come back from his honeymoon in the Dominican Republic that day, hence the magnificent t-shirt… ALSO I believe it was when I lost my TIDEFACE crown too (it was a fix).
I also stumbled across this gem, which put a massive smile on my face… the high budget masterpiece from the wonderful Lightyear…

My friend Martin McAllister about 5 years ago came on tour with my old band Captain Everything! and our friends Fireapple Red around the UK. Whilst on the road he took a bunch of photos and took a load of Super 8 film which, “At the time I thoroughly intended to edit into a video to a captain everything song. well… I’ve been struck down by a bizarre illness so I’ve had a bunch of free time on my hands and finally edited it together.” Here is the video for your eyes -
It definitely brought back plenty of memories for me and I think Martin summed it up very well in one of his emails by saying, “I remember really clearly being blown away about (in the nicest possible way) un-rock-and-roll being on tour is. Loads of trivial pursuits, loads of eating in supermarket carparks then one hour of why everyone’s out there. Good times.”
Good times indeed.

What have I been doing? uhhhh….
First up The Steal have been doing bits and bobs recently, our new album came out on monday, I think that doesn’t really mean anything these days… however one week from now don’t be surprised if you see us knocking off Metallica as the number 1 album in the UK right now… now. Look at this, isn’t that lovely?
Yup. We also played a bunch of release shows/parties to celebrate the fact we had a new album out, unfortunately the records didn’t show up in time, so they were just shows. brillo. Here are some photos of those gigs, courtesy of Willa C and Matt PBYes!!. cheers…
Getting wild at bacchus… that’s the shot you want, you could get that even if there were only 10 people there. Awesome, punk is so misleading. Anyway, there were quite a few people there, i think it was pretty oversold and pretty much FUN. We played for about 50 minutes, which is ridiculous and verging on boring… Quite a few friends had travelled a fair distance just for the show which made me mega happy, Owen and Rhys from swansea and Nelb from Derby and even James Brown and Gemma Tooth came back from the dead (Manchester) to listen to us play in a fairly shambolic and lengthy manner. Now for some pictures of us trying to figure out what we’re doing…
Confusion.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Next up is a cautionary tale from the Hobgoblin. Toby “The Fucking Man” Chelms put on this gig and again it was a lot of fun, I mean it was all over by 9 o’clock on a sunday! brilliant. We played with a bunch of real good bands at this show, like… Offshore Radio, Fast Point, Serf Combat, Damaged Goods, SOUTHPORT (yes! I have quite a boring but heart warming story about Southport, please never ask me to tell it.) Flatpig (who lent ALL their gear all day, amazing. oh and the drumkit was massive which i didn’t know until now that i like a lot.) Bastion… and others? I would remember but things got a bit weird throughout our set and it set in motion a chain of events that were luckily caught on camera…
So, things were pottering along as normal… kids were “going off” singing along, making human pyramids, etc, etc.. Lindsay, who over the last few years has been dabbling in the occult (rather unwisely I might add), started sensing something was awry with the crowd…
Then out of nowhere… BAM! He realised he was too late to do anything, there was a rival wizard in attendance that had gone unoticed and he’d maliciously cast a spell, the negative effects of we were soon to find out…
There was a few minutes of utter confusion as we tried to figure out what was going on. Turned out it was worse than we ever could’ve imagined. Our friend Sean (white t-shirt), who normally is a lovely, friendly chap, had turned into a crazed animal, come up on stage and punched Pavey right in the back of the head… POW!
Pavey had no idea what had just happened, look at the utter disbelief and confusion on his face as he tries to comprehend the violence he’s just been the victim of…
Then it got messy… There was wailing, crying, the crowd (including the evil Sean) were laughing at Pavey who was howling like a wounded animal trying to express his hurt at the world in gutteral noises… a terrible sight to behold.
Then Lindsay, who luckily knew a counter spell, quickly righted what had gone wrong, erased all memory of the event from everyone’s minds and things carried on as before
or did they…
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Yeah. They did.
Ok I spent so long on that post I can’t be bothered writing any more, except to say that the Beat Express gig on monday was amazing, really inspirational stuff. I have large amounts of thanks to give to people for helping out so much with it. Hopefully Owen Richard KOP will have some photographic evidence for our viewing pleasure over the next few weeks. He is the best.
Right, gotta go see this. Yes!
